TEXAS CITY — Heavy gunfire late at night and other sounds of what many describe as a war zone this past week or so can be attributed to members of the U.S. Army’s Green Berets, who are in Texas City on a training exercise. The soldiers were on the Texas City Dike on Friday night for training.

The city’s homeland security director — who is usually the one to coordinate military activities in the city — would not confirm the Army’s presence.
