HOUSTON – Health officials are keeping close tabs on Galveston waters as conditions are ideal for flesh-eating bacteria to breed, according to a report from Culture Map Houston.

Officials with the Galveston County Health District said that the Gulf’s balmy salt waters prove to be an ideal breeding ground for the vibro vulnificus bacteria, which has caused numerous infections for swimmers.

The GCHD analyzes basic bacterial varieties that shed light on water conditions that possibly could harbor vibro vulnificus.
