BAYTOWN, Texas – A Baytown Fire Department hazmat team was called to a rail yard off FM 1405 on Thursday morning, according to a city spokeswoman.
The incident, first described only as an “emergency operation,” was reported around 9 a.m.
Spokeswoman Patti Jett said FM 1405 was closed to all traffic south of FM 565, but there was no other impact to surrounding communities.
Emergency responders from nearby Bayer Cooperation and the Chamber’s County Sheriff’s Office also helped out at the scene.
Crews said they were never able to find a leak on their monitoring equipment and it was later determined the warning may have just been a false alarm caused by a "transient odor."
FM 1405 was reopened in the early afternoon.
