HOUSTON – Harris County property tax statements are available to the public online and residents will soon be getting them in the mail.
County officials said more than 900,000 property tax statements started being mailed this week. The county tax office says it expects to collect more than $4 billion in property tax payments for 2011.
Property taxes must be paid before January 31, 2012 to avoid penalty or interest. But the taxes must be paid on or before December 31 to deduct your property taxes from the federal income tax.
Residents can pay their property taxes online at www.hctax.net or by calling 713-368-CARD. The Harris County Tax Office also accepts partial payments of property taxes.
“Take advantage of the convenience of going online to make your payments. Of course, you may still pay your taxes by mail or in person at any of the 15 Harris County Tax Office branches,” Tax Assessor-Collector Don Sumners said.
The Harris County Tax Office will not automatically mail receipts when taxes are paid, but they can be found on the web at www.hctax.net.
