HOUSTON -- I grew up in Sharpstown and the changes in my old neighborhood started a long time ago, but even I didn’t fully understand the problems until I spent several weeks riding with the Houston Police Department in what they simply call 17-District.

The Sharpstown area really stands out because of all the apartments that were built in the late 1970s and early 1980s. They are jam-packed with people, and the area is so lacking in basic resources like banks and grocery stores.

Some parts in and around Sharpstown are coming back. Many of the pocket neighborhoods have worked hard to keep their values. They are safe and clean.

It is why so many believe there are better days ahead. Watch the video and let me know your thoughts.
