HOUSTON – A man suspected in several recent robberies led officers on a chase in a stolen SUV early Thursday morning, but he ended up behind bars.
It started around 3 a.m. when HPD was called about two suspicious vehicles at an Exxon station at Hammerly and W. Sam Houston Parkway.
Officers said the suspects were stealing brass rings off sprinkler heads around the Exxon.
When the first HPD unit arrived, officers said a Kia Sorento took off.
Police gave chase, following the SUV south on Sam Houston Parkway to the Katy Freeway. From there, they took Dairy Ashford to Memorial. At some point on Memorial, police said the suspect abruptly stopped, bailed out of the vehicle and tried to run away.
But officers quickly caught up with him and took him into custody.
He was treated by paramedics at the scene for a head injury.
Police said the Sorento was reported stolen around 1 a.m. Thursday.
Officers said the suspects at the Exxon are believed to be responsible for several recent robberies in the area.
