HOUSTON – An elderly woman had a close call early Saturday after her hair caught fire while she was sleeping at her north Houston home, fire officials said.

According to the Houston Fire Department, the woman was sleeping with her husband at their home on Peach Spring near Ivy Springs when it caught fire around 1 a.m.

They did not have a smoke detector, but woke up after the woman’s hair started burning, fire officials said. Both of them were able to escape the burning home.

The woman was taken to the hospital to be checked out.

It's not clear what caused the hair fire.
