TOMBALL, Texas – Deputies say a quick thinking neighbor stopped a burglary in progress when he tackled the suspect and tied him up Monday afternoon.
“I left to go to the eye doctor early this morning, when I pulled in I seen these guys with guns going around the back of my house and I was like what’s going on,” said Joanne Smith, a victim.
Smith was stunned after she saw the chaos at her house on Berryvine Street. Her home had been burglarized.
Deputies with Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect and his two friends, who are on the run, have been burglarizing homes in the Cottage Gardens subdivision. There have been at least five in the last week alone.
“As far as I know, they’re breaking through the fences along the back of the houses and the subdivision behind us,” said Amanda Johnson, a neighbor.
One of the suspects was caught by a neighbor and his uncle. They were in the process of moving out after being robbed the day before. They dropped what they were doing when they saw the suspect carrying a TV and a woman’s luggage bag.
The good Samaritans tied the suspect up with wires from their speakers.
Minutes later, deputies in the helicopter spotted the tussle and landed in a nearby playground.
“This is the first, this hasn’t happened before. We knew that same address was burglarized and a gun was taken, we didn’t know if the suspect had a gun,” said Sgt. Don Plant, with the HSCO Air Support.
Smith is just grateful to her neighbors who saved her TV’s, laptop and jewelry.
“I think they’re just lazy bums, that don’t want to work,” she said.
Deputies are still looking for the two other suspects.
