GALVESTON, Texas — Don’t be surprised if you are in the lobby of The Tremont House in Galveston tonight and a guy looking like Smokey Robinson comes up to you and sings “My Girl.”
Or if women who look like Diana Ross and her friends in The Supremes stroll down Mechanic Street saying they want you “Back in My Arms Again.”
It won’t be a figment of your imagination, only a taste of the Golden Era of Motown, the theme this year for The Tremont House’s 28th annual Mardi Gras ball and parade viewing party.
The Legacy of The Temptations presented by Legends in Concert will headline the night of one of Mardi Gras Galveston’s grandest balls that includes a private viewing of the Knights of Momus Grand Night parade from the seawall to downtown Galveston.
There are a limited number of the $200-per-person tickets left for the ball that features three musical groups, an open bar, dinner and breakfast.
A portion of the proceeds benefits Galveston Sustainable Communities Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating sustainable and holistic neighborhood revitalization through education, mixed-income housing and community development.
The glamour of Mardi Gras, though, kicks off with the 16th annual San Luis Salute that benefits the University of Texas Medical Branch’s efforts to build a new hospital tower at the island campus.
The ball, hosted by Paige and Tilman Fertitta and held at the Galveston Island Convention Center at The San Luis Resort, will honor Dr. David Herndon, the chief of staff at the Shriners Hospitals for Children-Galveston.
