HOUSTON—School is out and already parents are searching for affordable family fun. Many are already heading to Galveston Island.
“We love to come to Galveston,” said Libby Sikora, “and we live in Katy.”
One of the island’s biggest family attractions is Moody Gardens. There’s Palm Beach with its water park. The lazy river is a new addition. There is also a new wave pool. Admission is $24 for adults and $19 for children. A $55 season pass allows unlimited access.
Also at Moody Gardens, Dinos Alive is back. It includes animatronics creatures. Admission is $7.50. Children under the age of three get in free.
On The Strand, everybody loves La King’s Confectionery. They make the ice cream upstairs. They make most of the chocolates in the open kitchen. On the days they make taffy they throw free samples to the crowd.
“It’s fun to see them catch it and enjoy it,” said candy maker Ernest Torres.
On the island, there are free movies and concerts downtown and there’s Artwalk. All the galleries open their doors for folks to come in and enjoy refreshments and live entertainment.
There are also free ferry rides on the Bolivar Ferry. The 40-minute round trip ride from the island to Port Bolivar is known to include dolphin sightings.
