GALVESTON — Galveston Housing Authority’s board is researching whether it can hire an attorney from a high-profile Houston law firm to accompany a local delegation to a meeting with federal housing officials.

The board was uncertain late Thursday morning whether the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development rules would allow the local group to bring outside legal counsel to the meeting, board Chairman Irwin M. “Buddy” Herz said.

Local officials are scheduled to meet Monday in Washington, D.C., with U.S. Housing Secretary Shaun Donovan and others to discuss the future of affordable housing on the island.
