GALVESTON — An attorney representing a runaway boy has set up a bank account to accept donations for the 9-year-old, who police say was kept in a box.

The boy, whose initials are J.W., was reported as a runaway July 22 from his Galveston home. Police released his name and photograph, so the public could help find him.

Police found the boy three hours later, and state Child Protective Services had a concern about his living situation, a spokeswoman said.

A search warrant affidavit filed by a Galveston police detective claimed authorities were searching for evidence of the possession or promotion of child pornography. The Daily News doesn’t publish the names of those who might be victims of sex crimes.

The boy told the officer who found him that he ran away from home because he didn’t want to be locked in his room, the affidavit states.
