GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas—The deaths of a North Carolina doctor and her husband were officially ruled a double suicide after a toxicology exam detected 21 drugs in the man’s body, an official said Wednesday.

The ruling on the couple’s deaths came after the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office received the final toxicology exam on the husband, William Cargile, 58.

Dr. Leslie Cargile, 53, was reported missing when she didn’t return to her medical practice in Black Mountain, N.C. The couple left a hotel in Mobile, Ala., on Aug. 18 and arrived in Galveston the following day.
