In the past week, the U.S. Coast Guard has seized about 31,000 pounds of shrimp, valued at about $69,000, illegally caught in closed waters.

On Monday, the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Heron seized the catch from two more boats of people shrimping in closed waters off the Texas Coast. That comes on the heels of Wednesday’s stop when the Heron’s crew observed three boats shrimping in the closed area about 90 miles from Galveston.

Along with the National Marine Fisheries Service, the Coast Guard seized most of the catch Wednesday, which brought in a fair market value of more than $47,000. Monday’s seizure of nearly 15,000 pounds of shrimp was valued at $22,000, making a total of more than $69,000 seized in the last week.
