GALVESTON — Firefighters rescued a worker trapped by the collapse of a termite-damaged home, a fire official said Wednesday.

Officials said the worker — whose name was not immediately known — was expected to survive. An ambulance took the man to the University of Texas Medical Branch.

A second worker escaped unharmed.

The lunch-hour Wednesday collapse of a house in the 1300 block of 21st Street rattled the home of a neighbor Steven Reynolds, who ran outside and learned a man was trapped beneath a single-story, elevated house.

The home, which had been under repair for the past week, fell about 6 feet. It also fell west toward the street, covering the sidewalk.
