HOUSTON — Family members of Antonio Saldivar held a candlelight vigil to pray for him and for answers in his death. The 17-year-old’s body was found floating in the Houston Ship Channel Tuesday.

“All of our questions have not been answered,” said Saldivar’s aunt, Lucy Garcia. “We know he wasn’t alone, and we know he didn’t do this to himself.”

The junior at Houston Can Academy disappeared on Valentine’s Day while going to his friend’s house to give her a gift. His car was found crashed into concrete beam early the next morning at the intersection of Navigation and Harrisburg. His shoes were still in the front seat.

Family members want to know what happened to him and how he got from his car into the ship channel.

His sister, Jessica Perales, is begging anyone who knows information to come forward.

“If you knew Antonio like I know Antonio as his sister, you would want to say something, because he didn’t have to go through that,” she said.

The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office is still working to determine an official cause of death.

Friends are hosting a benefit on Sunday to help the family pay for his funeral costs. It will start at noon at Stephanie’s Ice House on 5434 Lawndale St. in Houston.
