Drunken driver pleads guilty in double fatality on Seawall Boulevard

GALVESTON — A drunken driver pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of intoxication manslaughter after his vehicle struck and killed two pedestrians and a dog.

Judge Kerry Neves of Galveston’s 10th District Court sentenced Matthew Green Shelton, 28, to two 15-year prison terms in the April 25, 2012, deaths of Steven Louis Hunt, 42, and Joseph Christopher Owen, 43. The sentences will run concurrently.

Shelton’s Mitsubishi was traveling west on Seawall Boulevard about 6:15 p.m. when it fatally struck the Galveston residents and a dog they were walking on a sidewalk near 13th Street. Shelton’s automobile then hit a parked car.
