GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas—Teachers and students were on alert at Dickinson High School Monday after negative remarks about the high school were discovered in a Facebook posting.

The Principal ordered extra police officers and security on campus, in addition to extra administrators to monitor any situation that could occur.

The principal sent out a letter to parents about the matter and assured them the day was progressing as normal.

Dear Dickinson High School Parents,

We are aware that an unnamed person has posted negative remarks about Dickinson High School on Facebook. As you know, Facebook is an uncensored and unmonitored website where anyone can post unsubstantiated rumors. Our Galveston County Sheriff’s department is investigating the situation and keeping our campus and central office administration apprised of their progress.

Please know that our day began this morning as normal with no incidents. We have extra police officers on duty at the campus, and we have additional administrators on campus so help supervise and monitor. Our teachers and students are working hard in the classroom, and the day is proceeding as planned.

Law enforcement will continue their investigation until this situation is resolved. We take incidents like this very seriously and have responded accordingly. Dickinson High School is a great school were students and staff are safe to pursue their educational goals.

Sincerely,

Billye Smith, Principal

Dickinson High School
