CYPRESS, Texas -- With the push of a button, Kelly Trlica and Ashley Dutton are fighting crime one copy at a time, printing hundreds of flyers with the composite sketch of a rape suspect who may have struck in the Cypress area more than once.
“So we’ll go ahead and put them on every door in the neighborhood of Village at Cypress Lakes off of 290 and the Meushki area where he’s been hitting,” said Trlica.
When these co-workers heard the news of three sexual assaults in the Cypress area in as many weeks, two of them remarkably similar, they didn’t just sit back in disbelief. They decided to take action.
“Because it’s my neighborhood,” said Dutton. “I don’t want anything to happen to one of my neighbors or my family members or myself.”
“We’re all in the cypress area,” said Trlica. “It’s scary that this is happening during the daylight hours. There’s moms with children around and as a mom myself with a small child, I want people to know. He needs to be caught.”
The most recent assault took place in the Cypress Landing subdivision. A mother of two had just gotten home from work when her door was kicked in. Fortunately, her children weren’t home from school yet, which was not the case earlier this month, when a mother’s door was kicked in three miles away, and she was raped while her children were in another room. Investigators are trying to determine if the same suspect is responsible.
“I kind of figured if we put the news out there and tell everybody what he looks like and what he drives, if they see it, then they’ll know, hey, this guy has been on the news, and maybe it can stop sooner than having another incident happen,” said Dutton
The suspect is said to be a thin Hispanic male in his 20s with a military style haircut. He’s approximately 5’10” tall and drives a white four door Chevy Cobalt with Texas stickers. If you have information call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
