CONROE, Texas – One person is dead and a firefighter was injured after a house fire early Sunday in near Lake Conroe, the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office said.
Firefighters responded at 4 a.m. to a fire at a home on Lakeway Drive in the Big Oaks subdivision, fire officials said. Firefighters from stations in Montgomery and north Montgomery County responded with six units and found the home heavily engulfed in flames when they arrived, officials said.
Crews entered the home and found a body, believed to be that of the home’s resident, officials said. The victim has not been identified.
One firefighter was transported to Conroe Regional Medical Center after suffering from heat exhaustion and related-medical problems, officials said.
Fire officials said arson investigators are looking into what caused the fire, and an autopsy will be performed on the victim.
An initial investigation revealed that the fire originated on the home’s porch and spread quickly into the interior of the home.
