HOUSTON—More than 165 pets were adopted from BARC Animal Shelter last weekend when fees were waived.

Nearly $1,300 in donations were also made to the organization and 50 animals were taken to foster homes, transferred to a rescue group, relocated or return to their owners.

BARC’s recently launched "Meet Your Match" program helped potential adopters identify the cat or dog that best matches their personalities by allowing people to spend time with the animals before adopting.

All animals adopted over the weekend received a full pre-adoption package including spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations a City of Houston license tag and a microchip.

Donations provided by pet adopters over the weekend will support pet adoptions for another special event, June 11’s national no-kill "Just One Day event," during which all shelters are asked not to put down any adoptable animal.

Friends of BARC holds a Wags to Whiskers adoption event every Saturday from noon until 4 p.m. at 3200 Carr for anyone looking to take home a forever friend.
