PEARLAND, Texas — Five men were arrested after they were accused of attacking a security guard at Pearland Town Center Mall last weekend, police said.
Rigoberto J. Flores, 20, maintenance supervisor at the mall, is charged with assault on a security officer, a third-degree felony, according to the Pearland Police Department. Four other suspects involved, Acension Flores, 26, Rene Flores, 24, Troy Cheeves, 27, and Erasmo Lopez, 19, are also charged with assault on a security officer.
According to investigators, police were dispatched at 10 a.m. on June 23 to the parking lot near Dillards at the mall, which is located in the 11200 block of Broadway, after receiving a call of an assault in progress.
When police arrived, they were to detain several males. Rigoberto J. Flores explained to police that he worked at the mall and that he had been involved in repeated verbal altercations with the security guard.
Flores said he was tired of being taunted and decided to retaliate. The maintenance supervisor said he knew he could not win a one-on-one fight with the security guard, so his called his brother and some friends to “back him up.”
The suspects said they were there to help their brother out in the fight and “jumped in.”
The victim sustained a large knot on the right side of his head and a swollen, bleeding lip, police said. At the time of the assault, the security guard was on duty and wearing his uniform.
Bond was set at $10,000 each.
