WEATHERFORD, Texas—A 17-year-old accused of killing his mother and younger sister, then calling 911 and confessing, was to appear at a pretrial hearing Wednesday in North Texas.

The judge is expected to set bond for Jacob Ryan Evans. He’s charged with capital murder in the deaths of his mother and 15-year-old sister.
He’s been jailed since his October arrest at his upscale home in Aledo, 20 miles west of Fort Worth. He can be heard telling a 911 operator he is “evil.”
It’s unclear what sentence Evans faces if convicted.
A U.S. Supreme Court ruling doesn’t allow anyone under 18 who’s charged with capital murder to face the death penalty or life without parole. Those are the only two punishment options for a capital murder conviction in Texas.
