EAGLE CREEK, Ore. -- Two dogs were found beaten to death with an ax in Eagle Creek, leading to a police investigation and reward for solving their deaths.

The dogs were found by their owner Japheth Stalcup, 25, last Thursday after they had disappeared the prior Monday.

The bodies were found in a wooded area behind his property in the 24000 block of Southeast Sweetwater Lane, said Sgt. Adam Phillips.

A necropsy at the Oregon Human Society determined that Duke, a black lab, and Buddy, a Blue Heeler mix had injuries consistent with an ax beating and not an animal attack.

In Defense of Animals was offering a $2,500 reward and the Oregon Humane Society announced a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest and prosecution.
