LAKE PONCHARTRAIN, Louisiana -- Huge waves on Lake Ponchartrain were a sure sign that Isaac was on its way. Despite warnings from police, locals were out in droves Tuesday to see their usually calm lake look more like an ocean.

“It’s unbelievable man, it’s only gonna’ get stronger,” said Isaac Minks, New Orleans resident.

As the storm moved closer to New Orleans, winds were picking up, waves were getting higher and the water was rising. That left some people uneasy, remembering the storm that devastated the area seven years ago.

“It’s nerve-wracking, keeps you on pins and needles because you’ve got Katrina on your mind,” said Michele Leech.

“I think more people are just nervous because it’s the week of Katrina and we don’t want to go through something that rough again,” said John Dudenhefer.

Police stepped in and asked the onlookers to leave for their safety as Hurricane Isaac showed no signs of letting up.
