MUNCIE, Indiana -- On his first day at Ball State University, freshman Markus Burden of Frankfort, Ill., hit a half-court shot – with pretty impeccable form – to win a semester of free tuition.
He was randomly selected from the crowd at a freshman Welcome Week event Thursday night, the university said. His out-of-state tuition prize is valued at $11,084.
Apparently Burden wasn't burdened with a do-or-die situation. He didn't get just one shot to earn the free schooling. It was on his fourth heave that the orange fell true -- and how great must it have felt to not only win the tuition money, but also hear the crowd roar around him?
