MIDLOTHIAN, Texas (AP) — A homebuilt biplane crashed at a rural North Texas airport, killing its pilot.

A Federal Aviation Administration statement says the crash happened shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday at Mid-Way Regional Airport in Midlothian, about 25 miles south of Dallas.

Trooper James Colunga of the Texas Department of Public Safety identified the pilot as the aircraft owner, 49-year-old James Edward Doyle of Arlington.

Witnesses told the FAA that the pilot of the single-engine Skybolt biplane was performing aerobatic maneuvers over the airport runway when the aircraft crashed.

The identity of the pilot hasn't been released.
