BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — A Southeast Texas man has been sentenced to life in prison over a 2011 robbery that left one person dead and another wounded.

Jurors in Beaumont on Thursday convicted 32-year-old Gregory Adam George of capital murder. Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty so the Beaumont man received an automatic sentence of life in prison without parole for the fatal shooting of Jose Morales.

Morales in April 2011 was in his home's backyard with a friend, Jose Sanchez, after both had worked on the house.

Prosecutors say George approached the pair, demanded money but both refused. Authorities say George left but returned with a gun and shot both men, then stole a wallet from Morales, who died at the scene.

Sanchez recovered and identified George, who has previous drug-related convictions.
