AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — Preliminary autopsy results show a Texas Panhandle man who died while in police custody had ingested drugs.
Amarillo police Lt. Erick Bohannon says a coroner determined 36-year-old Jeremiah Farris of Amarillo died of complications from ingesting methamphetamine. Police on Thursday did not immediately provide more details on the death.
Paramedics were called early Wednesday after Farris became unresponsive while in the back of a patrol car following a vehicle and foot chase.
Investigators say the chase began after Farris acted in a suspicious manner while in a vehicle in an Amarillo parking lot.
