CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Two South Texas firefighters have been hurt while battling a cargo ship blaze sparked by welding.

Corpus Christi Fire Department Capt. James Brown said Wednesday that both men apparently inhaled hot gas.

Brown says one firefighter was treated and released following the blaze Tuesday afternoon aboard the Antonio at the Port of Corpus Christi. He says the other injured firefighter was improving Wednesday at a San Antonio hospital and should be released in a couple of days. Brown had no specific condition on that man.

Brown says workers in the hold were welding when some wood being used to support the cargo started on fire. The ship was hauling wind turbine parts.

The fire was extinguished in about an hour.
