FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A North Texas jury returned a death sentence for a man convicted of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend and her 8-year-old son before fleeing to Oklahoma.
The Tarrant County jury deliberated about seven hours before condemning Cedric Allen Ricks for killing 30-year-old Roxann Sanchez and her son Anthony Figueroa at their Bedford apartment on May 1, 2013.
Sanchez's 12-year-old son, Marcus Figueroa, also was stabbed but survived his wounds.
The same jury deliberated less than an hour May 8 before finding the 39-year-old medical assistant guilty of capital murder.
The killings happened as Ricks was free on bond from an assault charge stemming from allegations that he choked Sanchez the previous November.
Ricks fled to Oklahoma but was returned to face trial.
