CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Drivers on Corpus Christi's South Padre Island Drive are likely to get the message that police aren't fooling around about speeding.
Police starting a crackdown on rush-hour speeders wrote 116 tickets Thursday morning alone.
Senior Officer Kirk Stowers tells the Corpus Christi Caller-Times (http://bit.ly/1jPzzID ) residents had asked for help to combat speeding drivers so about 25 officers were shifted to the concentrated effort.
Twenty motorists ticketed were at least 20 mph over the limit. One driver was clocked on radar at 104 mph.
Another 29 citations were issued to people driving without a license or with an expired registration. Two vehicles were impounded for not having insurance.
