SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A San Antonio woman has been sentenced to three years in a state jail for the death of her dog that was tied to the bumper of her truck and fatally dragged.
The sentence Thursday for 46-year-old Herlinda Trigo was enhanced — adding a year — because her truck was considered a deadly weapon and because she has a previous prison record.
The San Antonio Express-News reports (http://bit.ly/1lHlgVI ) witnesses said her small mixed-breed dog was tied with a cable to the moving truck in June 2012. When the animal no longer could keep running it was dragged. People seeing it unsuccessfully tried to alert Trigo. One man testified she spit and cursed at him.
Trigo testified she was courteous and didn't know how the dog became tied to the truck.
