LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Prosecutors say the gunman in two West Texas bank robberies who was captured in California has been sentenced to nearly 25 years in prison.

A federal judge in Lubbock on Friday sentenced 45-year-old Russell Eugene Heath over the holdups last May in Lubbock and Amarillo.

Heath was arrested last August in Calexico, California. He pleaded guilty in November to aggravated bank robbery and to possessing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

Prosecutors say the getaway driver, 31-year-old Gabriel Tenorio, in December was sentenced to nearly 12 years in prison. Tenorio pleaded guilty to aggravated bank robbery.

Both men are from Lubbock.
