HOUSTON (AP) — Houston police have arrested the driver of fleeing car that hit a horse and rider in an accident that led to the injured animal being euthanized.
Police say the 17-year-old rider suffered minor injuries in Friday night's crash but the 12-year-old horse named Blackjack had to be put down.
Police say the driver faces charges including evading arrest, failure to stop and render aid and tampering with evidence.
Investigators say the suspect was seen throwing items out of his car after allegedly refusing to stop, going through a stop sign and being chased by officers. Police are trying to determine whether drugs were involved.
