FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A North Texas police officer has shot a burglary suspect who used a tire iron to attack another officer.

Fort Worth police say the officers were responding early Thursday morning to a burglary call at an apartment complex when they encountered 18-year-old Jaden Williams holding the tire iron.

Authorities say Williams was shot when he lunged at the second officer. Despite being wounded, Williams continued forward and threw the tire iron, striking the officer in the head. The officer suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene.

Williams was taken to a hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening. He's facing charges that include aggravated robbery and aggravated assault against a public servant.

The investigation into the matter continues.
