VIDOR, Texas (AP) — East Texas authorities say law enforcement officers serving an arrest warrant have shot and killed a 64-year-old man in an exchange of gunfire.
Morris Ray Bonnette died Tuesday at a home in Vidor (VY'-dur) where Orange County sheriff's deputies and U.S. marshals were attempting to take him into custody. Vidor is about 10 miles northeast of Beaumont.
Chief Deputy Clint Hodgkinson said Wednesday that Bonnette was wanted on a felony charge of assault-family violence. He says Bonnette was alone at the home and armed when authorities arrived. No one else was struck by the gunfire.
The Texas Rangers were notified and are leading the investigation.
