AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A man and woman have been hospitalized and one man is in custody after an early morning shooting on Austin's popular Sixth Street.
Police Sgt. Chris Smyth says the gunfire broke out Sunday as bars were emptying at the 2 a.m. closings, sending crowds into the street.
The Austin American-Statesman reports (http://bit.ly/1mBcyeV) the name of the man in custody isn't immediately released. It's also not known if he knows the victims.
Smyth says the gunman was in a large disturbance, pulled a weapon and fired once. Then he tried to run off but officers were able to capture him and recover his weapon. He's expected to face charges.
Smyth says despite big crowds that include intoxicated people, it's only the second shooting in the two years he's worked the area.
