EL PASO, Texas (AP) — A 27-year-old communications tower worker has been seriously hurt after tumbling about 100 feet down the Franklin Mountains in West Texas.

The El Paso Fire Department says the man was transported by helicopter to a hospital Sunday afternoon and was conscious and alert, with arm, leg and head injuries. His name and an updated condition weren't immediately released Monday.

Fire department spokesman George De La Torre says the man is a contract worker for towers on the mountains but was not on a tower or on duty when he fell. De La Torre says the man had returned to the mountain to retrieve some equipment.

A relative who with the man called 911 after the accident near an aerial tramway.
