DETROIT (AP) — Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has been transferred to a federal prison in Oklahoma as he serves his prison term in a corruption case.

The federal Bureau of Prisons website lists that Kilpatrick is being housed at the Federal Correction Institute at El Reno, located about 30 miles west of Oklahoma City. The Detroit News on Wednesday reported his transfer to the medium-security facility.

In October, Kilpatrick was sentenced to 28 years in federal prison for extortion, bribery, conspiracy and other crimes during his years in office.

Kilpatrick had sought a transfer to be near family in Texas, and had been at a transfer center before being moved to El Reno.

Kilpatrick quit office in 2008 in a different scandal.
