SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A carnival worker from Texas who's accused of having crack cocaine shipped to him inside a doll is on trial in South Dakota on drug charges.

Fifty-five-year-old John Whitfield Jr., of Houston, was arrested during the Sioux Empire Fair in Sioux Falls on Aug. 3, after authorities said they intercepted a package containing the doll stuffed with 37 grams of drugs worth more than $3,000 on the street.

Whitfield was foreman of the children's rides at the fair. Police say they found more drug evidence in his truck.

Another man who picked up the package with the doll told authorities he was running an errand for Whitfield. Whitfield's attorney, Betsy Doyle, says her client never saw or possessed the package containing the doll, and that others stayed in Whitfield's truck.
