AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — A Texas Panhandle group hoping to create a railroad museum has dropped plans amid funding, location and ownership issues.

Members of a board seeking to establish a Santa Fe Railway Historical Museum in Amarillo voted Friday to disband.

The Amarillo Globe-News (http://bit.ly/1ah2Lmv ) reports Potter County Commissioners on Monday expected an update on an audit of the nonprofit group. The organization has received nearly $400,000 in county funds since 2006.

Backers say the second floor of the old Santa Fe Depot wasn't large or secure enough to showcase more than 20,000 donated items. The Amarillo City Commission in September voted to buy the depot complex for $2.6 million.

Board officials say it should a few weeks to return about $225,000 worth of donations or give the money to another nonprofit group.
