SAN ANTONIO (AP) — The head of a crime syndicate has been sentenced to 15 years for his role in a pattern of organized crime that included four murders, attempted killings and drug trafficking.
Federal prosecutors say Rolando "Black Rabbit" Muniz was sentenced Friday in San Antonio. He pleaded guilty in November to a federal racketeering charge.
The 31-year-old Muniz lead the Texas Syndicate crime organization. Prosecutors say he admitted that beginning in January 2008 he and others engaged in a series of criminal actions to enhance the power and reach of the syndicate in the San Antonio area.
Muniz is the last of 20 syndicate members and associates sentenced for their roles in the criminal enterprise. The other defendants received a range of sentences, including up to 37 years in prison.
