TEXARKANA, Texas (AP) — A former secretary for a Northeast Texas city who stole more than $11,000 in municipal funds must repay the money and serve five years of probation.

A judge in Texarkana on Thursday afternoon accepted the plea deal from Karen Lightfoot. She served as city secretary of New Boston before being fired in 2012. Lightfoot, who pleaded guilty to theft by a public service, must also do 240 hours of community service.

Investigators say the time frame for the theft was November 2009 until October 2011.

New Boston is a city of about 4,800, located 150 miles northeast of Dallas.
