GALVESTON, Texas (AP) — A single-engine plane running out of fuel has made a safe emergency landing on a Southeast Texas beach.

Galveston city officials say nobody was hurt in the landing late Saturday afternoon at Stewart Beach.

The Galveston County Daily News (http://bit.ly/1lnKF6X ) reports a couple, their 7-year-old son and the pilot were in the Piper Cherokee.

Passenger Doyle Thibodeaux says pilot Brian Himel tried to make it to nearby Scholes International Airport when he couldn't switch to the last of four fuel tanks.

Himel planned to fly the plane off the beach as soon as he could refuel. Galveston police and parks officials had no immediate information Sunday on the aircraft.

Thibodeaux, his wife and their son planned to continue their trip from Patterson, La., to the Houston area by car.
