FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A man who told Fort Worth police he thought the gun he was holding wasn't loaded has been arrested in the shooting death last week of a 14-year-old.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram (http://bit.ly/1isyjuv ) reports 24-year-old Jose Mahugnos was arrested Monday. He remained in Mansfield Jail on Tuesday on a manslaughter charge with bail set at $70,000. He was also being held on an immigration detainer. Jail records did not list an attorney.
The Tarrant County medical examiner's office says 14-year-old German Serrano died Friday afternoon at John Peter Smith Hospital from a gunshot wound to the head. Police say Mahugnos and the teen were among visitors at a Fort Worth house when the shooting occurred late Thursday night.
Mahugnos was questioned and released shortly after the shooting.
