SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A San Antonio high school has served as a tribute site for a police officer who died last week of wounds suffered earlier in the month while he was chasing suspects in a robbery.
More than 50 friends, relatives and former classmates gathered at San Antonio Highlands High School Friday night to remember Robert Deckard. He graduated from the school in 2000.
Deckard was shot Dec. 8 during a car chase that extended from San Antonio into neighboring Atascosa County. He died Dec. 20.
Classmate Chris DeLeon told the San Antonio Express-News (http://bit.ly/1dfFpy) Deckard was a class clown and always wore a smile. Adriana Balderrama says she knew him from middle school and that he always wanted to be a police officer.
Deckard's funeral is set for Jan. 4.
