GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (AP) — Two suburban Dallas police officers are wounded after shooting broke out during a standoff with a suspect.
Grand Prairie police confronted a man Wednesday afternoon after an overnight incident in which a person opened fire on a police officer. Police spokesman Lyle Gensler said that when officers approached the man, he immediately opened fire and fled toward a field. Two officers were wounded superficially.
Gensler says the man did not follow commands to give up his weapon and was walking toward a residential area when officers on scene decided to shoot and incapacitate him.
Gensler says the man was airlifted to a Dallas hospital, where his condition is unknown.
Police believe the same man opened fire in the overnight incident, but have not yet confirmed that.
