Police probe shoplifting suspect's death

AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — Police are investigating the death of a man who had been suspected of shoplifting at a Texas Panhandle mall.

The Amarillo Globe-News reports (http://bit.ly/1fFz8vJ ) that 20-year-old Dalton Dakota Knott had been arrested for shoplifting by loss prevention personnel at a JCPenney store in Amarillo on Monday.

When officers with the Amarillo Police Department arrived to take Knott to jail, they found he was exhibiting signs of a possible drug overdose.

Police say Knott was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

A cause of death is not yet known as an autopsy of Knott is pending.
