Services next month for slain San Antonio officer

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A service will be held next month for a San Antonio police officer who was fatally shot while chasing two armed robbery suspects.

Police officials announced the funeral for 31-year-old Officer Robert Deckard will be 10 a.m. CST on Jan. 4 at Cornerstone Church in San Antonio. Interment details are pending.

Deckard was shot in the head Dec. 8 while chasing two convenience store robbery suspects. He died Friday at a hospital. Both suspects remain in custody on capital murder charges.

Deckard had been with the San Antonio Police Department for seven years.
